NEW INDIA NEW EMERGING LEADER
The Global Citizen Forum in association with the Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, ASSOCHAM and other supporting organisations held a week-long cultural extravaganza to mark the 70th anniversary of Indian Independence. Commemorating two events of great national significance – the Singapore National Day on August 9 and the Indian Independence Day on August 15, this series of events was strategically held between 9-15 August 2017. Attended by thousands of people over the course of 7 days, the series of events commenced with a concert by musical maestro Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and culminated with a power packed cultural performance celebrated Indian choreographer Shiamak Davar. Indian spiritual guru, Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudeva also gave an insightful talk at the event, along with a T20 cricket tournament on the side-lines which saw the participation of international cricket stars. The recreational events were also complemented by several key round table discussions hosted by the Global Citizen Forum – Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce Business Forum. These roundtables, featuring key stakeholders from India and Singapore, sought to outline a roadmap for cultural and business engagement between the nations. Bureaucrats and chief economists from India including Shri Bibek Debroy (Member, NITI Aayog), Shri Jawed Ashraf (Ambassador, Embassy of India to Singapore) other global representatives of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) were present, among others.
